Flourish is a evidence-based mental well-being platform built by psychologists. Students build emotional skills through mood check-ins, guided activities grounded in evidence-based practices, and personalized coaching with Sunnie, an scientifically validated, safety-first AI well-being coach. Flourish is designed for prevention and early intervention rather than treatment, and its effects on well-being, symptoms of depression and anxiety have been evaluated in two randomized controlled trials.

- Use of AI: Flourish uses generative AI to power Sunnie, a conversational well-being coach that guides students through evidence-based activities and personalized coaching. AI is also used for personalization and activity recommendations. Sunnie was designed by psychologists with clinical oversight; AI conversations operate within structured, safety-reviewed boundaries, and safety-relevant language triggers a crisis protocol that routes students to human support and crisis resources.

- Demonstrated outcomes: Flourish's effects have been evaluated in two randomized controlled trials. RCT1 was published in NEJM AI (Cachia et al., 2026; https://ai.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/AIoa2501293). RCT2 (n=1,137 university students) found that Flourish reduced perceived stress (PSS-4) and symptoms of depression and anxiety (PHQ-2, GAD-2) in a general, undiagnosed student population; the manuscript is available as a preprint (https://osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/nwz9q) and the trial is registered (NCT06668532).

- Crisis protocols: Flourish maintains a clinician-developed, industry-leading crisis protocol overseen by a Clinical & Safety Lead and advised by suicide prevention experts. Safety-relevant language in AI coaching triggers immediate routing to local and national crisis resources and clear guidance to human support. Protocols are adaptable to partner needs: Flourish co-develops escalation pathways with each institution's counseling and health services, and can configure feature scope to institutional requirements.
Data provided to school/district
Flourish provides partner institutions with de-identified, aggregate reporting on engagement, utilization, and well-being trends, helping schools understand adoption and student needs without exposing any individual student's data. Reporting can be tailored to the metrics a school or district cares about most.
Accessibility
