- Use of AI: Flourish uses generative AI to power Sunnie, a conversational well-being coach that guides students through evidence-based activities and personalized coaching. AI is also used for personalization and activity recommendations. Sunnie was designed by psychologists with clinical oversight; AI conversations operate within structured, safety-reviewed boundaries, and safety-relevant language triggers a crisis protocol that routes students to human support and crisis resources.
Impact
- Intended outcomes: Intended outcomes include increased well-being, resilience, and flourishing; strengthened emotional regulation, mindfulness, and coping skills; a greater sense of belonging; reduced symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress. Flourish is designed as a preventive and early-intervention resource that helps students build these skills before difficulties escalate, complementing rather than replacing school counseling and clinical care.
- Demonstrated outcomes: Flourish's effects have been evaluated in two randomized controlled trials. RCT1 was published in NEJM AI (Cachia et al., 2026; https://ai.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/AIoa2501293). RCT2 (n=1,137 university students) found that Flourish reduced perceived stress (PSS-4) and symptoms of depression and anxiety (PHQ-2, GAD-2) in a general, undiagnosed student population; the manuscript is available as a preprint (https://osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/nwz9q) and the trial is registered (NCT06668532).
Privacy & Safety
- Privacy & security: HIPAA, CCPA, GDPR completed. SOC 2 in progress.
- Crisis protocols: Flourish maintains a clinician-developed, industry-leading crisis protocol overseen by a Clinical & Safety Lead and advised by suicide prevention experts. Safety-relevant language in AI coaching triggers immediate routing to local and national crisis resources and clear guidance to human support. Protocols are adaptable to partner needs: Flourish co-develops escalation pathways with each institution's counseling and health services, and can configure feature scope to institutional requirements.
Data provided to school/district
Flourish provides partner institutions with de-identified, aggregate reporting on engagement, utilization, and well-being trends, helping schools understand adoption and student needs without exposing any individual student's data. Reporting can be tailored to the metrics a school or district cares about most.
Accessibility
- Web accessibility: Flourish can provide a VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) documenting the product's conformance with WCAG 2.1 and Section 508 accessibility standards upon request.
- Language accessibility: Flourish's AI-powered features, including Sunnie's coaching conversations and the interactive journal, support all major languages. The app's interface is primarily graphic-based, minimizing language barriers; a fully multilingual interface is in development and expected by December 2026.

- Use of AI: Today, TRAILS uses AI only internally—not in the product that users engage with. Within clinical guardrails and human oversight, AI helps TRAILS' program team adapt and curate its existing evidence-based library so content fits each context. It does not power any chatbot, screening, risk detection, personalization, or automated decision in the product. TRAILS is developing its AI approach with the schools it serves, and won't center AI at the expense of clinical fidelity or trust.
Impact
- Intended outcomes: TRAILS aims to equip every adult in a school to support student mental health with evidence-based, CBT-informed practices, so help reaches students through the trusted adults already around them. Intended outcomes include greater staff preparedness and competency; a consistent, shared language of support across the whole school; students who can access support across tiers of need; and school-level gains in the outcomes student mental health drives, like attendance and behavior.
- Demonstrated outcomes: A 2025 Institute of Education Sciences randomized controlled trial in a large, high-need urban district found statistically significant decreases in chronic absenteeism and disciplinary incidents, plus increased student use of coping skills—consistent across racial and ethnic subgroups. Evaluations also show consistent gains in staff preparedness, confidence, and use of evidence-based practices. Now reaching 1,500+ schools. Evidence of impact: trailstowellness.org.
Privacy & Safety
- Privacy & security: TRAILS collects no student-level data for under-18s and is built to align with FERPA and COPPA. HIPAA doesn't apply—no patient/health data is collected. TRAILS uses commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards. AI features are internal-only; identifiable data is never used to train external AI models.
- Crisis protocols: TRAILS does not detect, triage, or escalate crises, and has no automated or AI-enabled risk detection. Its support forms handle only product questions and direct users to their school's protocols for safety concerns. Suicide prevention is built throughout the model: TRAILS equips staff—by role and tier—to recognize concerns early, respond to risk, support collaborative safety planning, refer, and manage re-entry and postvention, always following each school's own crisis policies and protocols.
Data provided to school/district
TRAILS shares regular reports with schools, districts, and regional agencies on program usage. The platform adds an in-product dashboard where school leaders can view staff registration and engagement, most-used resources, and staff-reported use with students—helping them track and support implementation.
Accessibility
- Web accessibility: The TRAILS platform targets WCAG 2.2 Level AA, with accessibility built into its design and ongoing review as enhancements are built.
- Language accessibility: Translation is a core part of TRAILS' program development. Student- and family-facing resources are available in Spanish, and modules and videos include Spanish closed captioning. The full platform is not yet translated. TRAILS is growing its Spanish offerings and plans to add more languages over time, working to meet state and district requirements.

- Use of AI: Closegap uses AI to detect students who may be in crisis based on written check-ins, generate plain-language educator insights, tag student needs from free-text responses, recommend targeted Single Session Interventions, and generate English and Spanish voiceovers for dynamic check-ins.
Impact
- Intended outcomes: The Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University identified the most common factors of children who develop resilience in the face of significant adversity: responsive adult relationships and self-regulation skills. Closegap was built to facilitate both of these using scalable technology. Closegap tracks a number of impact metrics related to both, in addition to the number of suicides prevented and serious issues surfaced by the tool. Learn more here.
- Demonstrated outcomes: Closegap saves lives by revealing invisible struggles. 80% of staff discovered previously unnoticed students in need, with 20% uncovering severe issues, including suicidal ideation. Beyond crises, the platform identifies upstream issues, with 80% of staff uncovering mild issues and 73% moderate issues among students. After one month, 40% of students who couldn't name a trusted adult could name at least one. 80% of students showed an increase in emotional labeling and regulation.
Privacy & Safety
- Privacy & security: Closegap minimizes what is shared with AI providers, uses vendors that contractually agree not to train models on its data, aligns practices with FERPA and COPPA expectations, and does not sell or share student data.
- Crisis protocols: Closegap uses AI to surface crisis-related signals from student check-ins, but AI does not replace trained adults. Crisis-related signals are reviewed by humans, and educators remain in control of how students are supported. When a model is uncertain, Closegap errs on the side of involving a human.

Impact
- Intended outcomes: PlaySmart targets increased perception of risk of harm from opioid misuse and promotes mental health, including help seeking behaviors, in adolescents ages 16–19, while building critical social-emotional learning (SEL) competencies. Secondary outcomes include improved intentions, self-efficacy, attitudes, knowledge, and perceived norms around opioid misuse, alongside measures of depression and mental health.
- Demonstrated outcomes: A trial published in Nature Health randomized 532 adolescents aged 16–19, all high-risk for opioid misuse, across 15 high schools. Immediately after gameplay at 6 weeks, PlaySmart participants showed a statistically significant increase in perceived risk of harm (26% vs. 18%, P=0.047). PlaySmart participants demonstrated significant knowledge gains that persisted to 3 months (2.1-point gain vs. 0.1 in controls; P<0.001), and significant improvements in negative expectancies about opioid misuse

- Use of AI: Sonar uses AI to support, not replace, human judgment. Youth do not chat directly with AI; every youth-facing message is reviewed and sent by a trained Wellbeing Coach. AI helps coaches understand context, suggest responses, flag potential risk, support triage/escalation, and improve consistency and speed.
Impact
- Intended outcomes: Sonar’s intended outcomes are to help schools and health systems support more youth, improve youth mental health and wellbeing, build practical coping skills, identify safety concerns earlier, connect youth to appropriate supports when needed, and improve academic and social outcomes.
- Demonstrated outcomes: Sonar has strong early, non-peer-reviewed outcomes data across school and healthcare deployments. Results show meaningful youth engagement, high retention, self-reported wellbeing improvement, improved attendance, fewer disciplinary incidents, and early improvements in validated symptom and impairment measures. RCTs are in progress.
Privacy & Safety
- Privacy & security: Sonar is SOC 2 Type II certified and complies with HIPAA, FERPA, and COPPA. They use a closed-loop, HIPAA-compliant AI system: AI supports coaches but does not message youth directly, and data is not sold, used for ads, or used by third parties.
- Crisis protocols: Sonar has standard, clinically informed crisis and escalation protocols adaptable to each school/district. They handle safety concerns immediately, 24/7. Coaches are trained to identify risk, AI flags alert Sonar's on-call team, and protocols surface in the coach co-pilot. Coaches assess risk, stay engaged, notify emergency contacts/school as appropriate, and contact emergency services for imminent risk.
Data provided to school/district
Sonar provides aggregate, anonymized data and insights, including student engagement, common wellbeing themes, overall trends, care referral/escalation patterns, and overall support recommendations. Schools do not receive individual conversations; student-specific information is shared only for safety/emergency reasons.
Accessibility
- Web accessibility: Sonar adheres to WCAG 2.1 AA.
- Language accessibility: Sonar supports all languages. Conversations can happen exclusively in that language if preferred by the student.

- Use of AI: Clayful provides access to trained human wellness coaches, not AI. The platform uses AI for limited administrative and support functions, such as identifying potential safety concerns for human review in journal submissions, supporting internal workflows, and creating relevant content. AI does not provide mental health coaching, make decisions about students, or replace human judgment. All student support conversations are conducted by trained human coaches.
Impact
- Intended Outcomes: Clayful helps students build emotional regulation, reduce anxiety, and seek help earlier—leading to improved attendance and academic outcomes. Educators and families gain real-time support to reduce stress and foster stronger relationships. Districts see fewer disruptions, more engaged classrooms, and stronger Tier 1 supports—reducing the need to spend limited resources on Tier 2 and 3.
- Demonstrated Outcomes: Clayful conducted an ESSA Level II & III study with Learn Platform, which found that chronically absent students using Clayful attended school two more weeks than non-users. A separate outcomes study with Georgetown found 90% of Tier 1 students remained in Tier 1, 2x the rate of non-users. Districts also reported better attendance, fewer disruptions, and earlier identification of students in need, including those at risk for suicide.
Privacy & Safety
- Privacy & security: Clayful adheres to applicable privacy and security requirements, including FERPA, COPPA, & HIPAA. The platform uses encryption, access controls, and trusted third-party infrastructure providers to safeguard data.
- Crisis protocols: Clayful’s support model is human-led. Students connect directly with trained wellness coaches who follow established safety and escalation protocols. Potential risk indicators identified through platform monitoring are reviewed by clinical supervisors and, when escalated to designated school staff, guardians and/or local agencies as required by law. Escalation workflows are configurable to meet each school’s requirements and crisis response protocols.
Data provided to school/district
Clayful provides anonymized data on usage, screener results, and anxiety/depression trends by grade and gender—so districts can spot patterns (e.g., 8th grade boys struggling) and intervene early. They also deliver real-time alerts to ensure students get support when they need it most.
